A&U acquires Tunny’s debut novel
Allen & Unwin (A&U) has acquired world rights to Over to You by Georgie Tunny, in a deal brokered by Cathy Baker at CMC Talent Management.
According to the publisher, Over to You follows 3 women attempting to break into the Australian media industry. The novel draws on Tunny’s own experience as a former ABC presenter and anchor for Network 10’s The Project. “Over to You explores the experience of being a young female broadcaster and the complex friendships and relationships that can spring from working in the TV industry,” said the publisher.
Tunny started out in the media sector as a journalist with the ABC. She has worked as a sports presenter, weather presenter and as a co-host during the 2020 bushfire emergency coverage. She hosts podcasts, which include Two Good Sports with Abbey Gelmi. In 2026, Tunny will lead Network 10’s weekend news bulletin.
Tunny said, “For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be an author. Storytelling has shaped every part of my life – my career, my relationships, and my identity.
“I wanted to create a high-stakes, high-intensity world that honestly – and brutally – reflects modern female friendships. I can’t wait for readers to meet ‘the girls’. I hope they fall in love with each of them as I have. Brilliantly ambitious women fighting each other and themselves to reach the top.”
A&U publisher Cate Paterson said, “I was expecting a bright and breezy romp through breakfast television, but Georgie has delivered so much more. There is the ambitious competitiveness of The Devil Wears Prada thrown together with the high-stakes drama of The Morning Show, grounded by the intense female friendships of Big Little Lies. Georgie Tunny is a novelist.’
A&U plans to publish Over to You in Australia and New Zealand in June 2026.
