GenreCon 2026 announces new venue
The Queensland Writers Centre (QWC) has announced that next year’s GenreCon, the QWC’s annual conference for genre writers, will be held at Brisbane’s Thomas Dixon Centre.
QWC said, “To meet the growing needs of our community – known as ‘GenreConjurers’ – the 2026 event will move to a venue that offers the specific spatial flexibility required for our expanded vision.”
The convention will have exclusive use of the venue for the event, running 20 to 22 February 2026 under the theme “Inkling”. The extra space will allow for “publisher pitches, expanded breakout areas for workshops, and exclusive social spaces for networking”.
GenreCon will also host the presentation of the Aurealis Awards, set to be hosted by Eugen Bacon. The awards, established in 1995, recognise the achievements of Australian science fiction, fantasy and horror writers.
QWC CEO Lori-Jay Ellis said, “This change of scenery is about giving our community the room it needs to grow. Having the whole venue to ourselves means we can create a focused environment for our writers, from the pitch sessions to the social events.”
Organisers noted that the State Library of Queensland (SLQ), the previous venue, has been “instrumental in nurturing GenreCon” and that QWC looks forward continuing its “partnership with the state library across […] broader programming”.
