HarperCollins acquires Palaszczuk memoir
HarperCollins has acquired world rights to the former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s memoir, Annastacia Palaszczuk: The Politics of Being Me.
“In Annastacia Palaszczuk: The Politics of Being Me, Annastacia shares her remarkable story with warmth and honesty,” said the publisher. “She takes readers behind the scenes of her political triumphs and personal struggles, from the relentless scrutiny of public life to her deeply personal battle with IVF. Through it all, she reflects on the sacrifices, resilience and unwavering sense of purpose it takes to lead while staying true to yourself.”
Palaszczuk, the first woman to win the premiership of Queensland from opposition, also became the first female Australian premier to secure three consecutive terms. She defied every stereotype of a political leader, said her publisher: “her name was hard to pronounce, she came from Brisbane’s hard-scrabble suburbs, she lacked ‘polish’, she wasn’t a man.” As Australia’s longest-serving female premier, Palaszczuk steered Queensland through the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2022 floods, and the successful bid to host the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. She has been an advocate for women, First Nations peoples, veterans and the arts.
