Neilma Sidney Short Story Prize 2025 shortlist released

The shortlist for the 2025 Neilma Sidney Short Story Prize has been announced.
The 8 shortlisted stories, chosen from more than 500 entries, are:
- “Many Small Violences” by Arden Baker
- “Two Men Standing in a Field” by Madeleine Blackwell
- “Nectarines” by Alan Fyfe
- “You Sat Down and Told Me About the Day Your Cat Tipsy Was Run Over by an Electric Van” by Tom Gurn
- “Barka Bloodlines” by Allanah Hunt
- “Hard Autumn Fruit” by Zoë Meager
- “Floridafinil” by Jonno Revanche
- “Smoke” by Maxi Sam-Morris.
The prize recognises “moving, powerful and original short fiction of up to 3000 words themed loosely around the notion of ‘travel’.” It is supported by the Malcolm Robertson Foundation and named after the late novelist and poet Neilma Gantner.
The winner receives $5000 and publication in Overland, while 2 runner-up stories will be awarded $750 each and published online.
