Report finds strongest growth among younger readers in Brazil

In Brazil, the Brazilian Book Chamber and Nielsen BookData have released the third edition of an annual survey, which showed book consumption grew in the country in 2025.

“According to the survey, Panorama of Book Consumption in Brazil, which is widely used by publishers to inform strategic decision-making … 18% of the population aged 18 and over purchased at least one book in the past 12 months, an increase of two percentage points over 2024, representing roughly 3 million new consumers,” reported Publishing Perspectives.

According to the report, the strongest growth was observed among younger readers, with the 18 to 34 age group having increased by a combined 3.4% compared to the previous year. It also pointed to social media’s role in book buying behaviour, finding that “some 56% of respondents said they purchased books through social media, with women accounting for 59% of these buyers”.

Publishing Perspectives reported that, “when it comes to following literary content, Instagram leads, cited by 42% of respondents, followed by TikTok at 19%, driven by the growth of the BookTok community”.
