Bakers Lane acquires Strauss’s “Holding Space”
Bakers Lane Books has acquired world rights to the nonfiction title Holding Space by Gina Strauss.
The publisher described Holding Space as a “hybrid memoir and professional guide offering reflections on some of life’s most vulnerable moments”, inspired by the author’s practice in frontline healthcare.
Bakers Lane Books publisher Ginny Grant said, “Holding Space is a beautiful series of narratives which remind us that presence, compassion and human connection matter. It showcases the profound humanity of hospital life [and] will appeal to anyone seeking insight into the emotions felt during the journeys of life, death and care.”
Gina Strauss is a Sydney-based writer and social worker who graduated from the University of New South Wales. The publisher said her work draws “on her experience across healthcare settings”.
Commenting on the acquisition, Strauss said, “Having Holding Space published by Bakers Lane Books is a meaningful affirmation of the work social workers do in unseen moments. It reflects the importance of sitting with people in their most intense moments. It is an honour to have these stories recognised.”
Bakers Lane Books plans to publish Holding Space in February 2027.
