Transit Lounge acquires Myles’s “Hereafter”
Transit Lounge has acquired world rights to Sarah Myles’s third novel, Hereafter.
Hereafter is “a remarkable novel that deftly explores themes of grief, trust, home and borders”, the publisher said. It follows the story of Meredith, who experiences a tragedy while travelling: “Her partner passes away in an accident, and his remains are returned to Australia. Nearing the end of a 6-month venture picking up a yacht from Spain and sailing it to Cairns she has no option but to complete the journey.”
Myles is the author of The Wolf Hour (Allen & Unwin), and Transplanted (Hodder Headline). She currently divides her time between writing and family, living in inner Melbourne and on the west coast of Victoria.
Myles said, “The novel is inspired by my own experiences, but also by a woman I met while travelling who told the story of taking on crew members she didn’t know. Images followed: a storm at sea and an Indonesian fishing boat. But what drives this narrative most are the characters: a young woman out of her depth, an older woman, scarred by life and probably seasoned by it as well, and a man who has lost his family and his bearings.”
Publisher Barry Scott said, “I instantly fell in love with this assured and deeply human novel.”
Transit Lounge plans to publish Hereafter in August 2027.
