Rights and contracts manager – maternity leave contract, Sydney

Hachette Australia has an exciting opportunity to join our team as Rights and Contracts Manager. This maternity cover role will be responsible for rights sales and contract management for Hachette Australia and New Zealand. The successful candidate will be responsible for maximising rights sales across a wide range of formats including English language and translation, screen and audio. The candidate will work closely with the Contracts & Licensing Executive to ensure smooth day-to-day drafting, negotiation and execution of Hachette contracts, as well as providing more general strategic oversight.

This role will suit an individual with:

• A background in rights sales – preferably also with some prior work across contracts – and a good understanding of copyright law and rights ownership.
• A strong grasp of budgeting, proven ability to meet sales targets, and an understanding of royalties reporting.
• Ability to work collaboratively with local publishing teams and overseas subagents, as well as build relationships with overseas stakeholders and potential rights buyers.
• Excellent time management skills, initiative and a deep understanding of international book markets.
