Commonwealth Short Story Prize 2026 regional winners announced

The winners for the 2026 Commonwealth Short Story Prize regional categories have been announced.

Chosen from a shortlist of 6, the winner for the Pacific region is Holly Ann Miller for “Second Skin”.

The regional winning titles are:

Africa

  • “Me and Ma’am” by Lisa-Anne Julien (South Africa)

Asia

  • “Mehendi Nights” by Sharon Aruparayil (India)

Canada/Europe

  • “The Bastion’s Shadow” by John Edward DeMicoli (Malta)

Caribbean

  • “The Serpent in the Grove” by Jamir Nazir (Trinidad and Tobago)

Pacific

  • “Second Skin” by Holly Ann Miller (Aotearoa New Zealand).

The 2025 winner of the Pacific category was Western Australian writer Kathleen Ridgwell for “Crab Sticks and Lobster Rolls”.

The overall winner will be chosen from the list of regional winners and announced on 30 June. Regional winners receive £2500 (A$4675) and the overall winner will receive £5000 (A$9350).
