Wynn-Williams’s book cover blurred out at British Book Awards

In the UK, the British Book Awards blurred images of former Facebook staffer Sarah Wynn-Williams’s book Careless People, reports the Bookseller.

Careless People won Audiobook: Nonfiction Book of the Year and, jointly with Nobody’s Girl (Virginia Roberts Giuffre, Doubleday), the Freedom to Publish award.

“Since the publication of Careless People in March 2025, Wynn-Williams has faced legal pressure and is not allowed to promote the book after Meta filed a lawsuit against her in arbitration, claiming she violated a non-disparagement agreement signed when she left the company,” reports the Bookseller, adding that the author faces a US$50,000 (A$69,000) fine each time she breaches the order.

“At the awards, Wynn-Williams was forced to stand in front of blurred images of her book after an extraordinary late move by Meta arguing that she ‘can’t be in the vicinity of the book’,” reported the Bookseller.
