Fisher wins inaugural Libraro Prize
Donna Fisher, a UK author currently based in Queensland, is the inaugural winner of the £50,000 (A$93,000) Libraro Prize for her novel Sheep’s Clothing.
Administered by the community digital platform Libraro, in partnership with Hachette UK and book recommendation platform LoveReading, the prize includes £30,000 prize money, £20,000 towards marketing support, and the option of a book deal with Hachette UK.
Sheep’s Clothing was selected by a panel of judges from a shortlist “driven by Libraro’s online community of 15,000+ readers and writers”.
The judges said Fisher’s manuscript was “a remarkably assured and engaging novel of the post #MeToo era” and “reminiscent of Daisy Jones and the Six”.
Fisher said of the novel: “Sheep’s Clothing begins with a familiar contemporary scene: the public cancellation of a celebrated man. What I wanted to explore wasn’t the spectacle itself, but what happens just outside it – to the people in his orbit, and in particular to a woman whose life, memories, and creative identity have been shaped in parallel with his.”
Currently living in Alexandra Headland, Queensland, Fisher is the author of the self-published novel Queentide, which won a LoveReading Indie Books We Love award.
