Varuna announces First Nations fellowship

Varuna, the National Writers’ House, has announced the recipients of the 2026 Copyright Agency First Nations Fellowship.

This year’s recipients are:

  • Gamilaraay and Yuwaalaraay journalist and industry professor Lorena Allam
  • Wiradjuri poet Alison Barton
  • Koorie artist, writer and worker Daisy
  • Djabuganydji actor Shahnee Hunter
  • Wulgurukaba poet and artist Joyrah Sebasio
  • Indigenous theatre-maker, academic and arts leader Liza-Mare Syron.

The recipients are offered a residency at Varuna from 7 to 14 September 2026, where they can connect with other First Nations writers and benefit from mentorship, and the sharing of skills and knowledge.
