HarperCollins acquires Anthony LaPaglia memoir

HarperCollins has acquired world rights to The Life We Choose, a memoir by actor Anthony LaPaglia.

Described by the publisher as “raw and layered”, the memoir traces LaPaglia’s journey from suburban Adelaide to a career spanning film, television and theatre. The book explores family, ambition, identity and reinvention, drawing on experiences from his childhood, early years in New York and decades working in the entertainment industry.

LaPaglia said writing the memoir required “a lot of self-examination and reflection”, adding: “In the end, I think it’s helped me make peace with myself in some way – and I hope readers might find a little of that peace for themselves too. I’d like to think they’ll also see parts of their own story in mine.”

Nonfiction publisher Sophie Ambrose said, “This is more than a memoir. It’s a story about the choices we all face when trying to shape the life we want. Funny, moving, wise and wildly entertaining – you’ll turn the last page and immediately want to re-read it.”

LaPaglia is an award-winning actor whose screen credits include Lantana, Balibo, Without a Trace, Frasier and Boy Swallows Universe. His stage work includes a Tony Award–winning performance in Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge and, most recently, the Australian production of Death of a Salesman.

HarperCollins plans to publish The Life We Choose in October 2026.
