Allen & Unwin acquires Human Nature memoir

Allen & Unwin (A&U) has acquired world rights to Human Nature’s memoir Only Human: Harmony Through the Hits & Hard Times, via manager Jennifer Fontaine.

Pop vocal group Human Nature debuted in 1996. The group – brothers Andrew and Mike Tierney, Phil Burton and Toby Allen – “have ridden a wave to the top of the charts, initially at home, and have subsequently won fans all over the globe”, said the publisher. The band has sold over 2.5 million albums worldwide, earning 27 platinum awards and scoring 18 top 40 hits.

The publisher described the memoir as “an honest reflection on friendship, ambition, family, success and survival – and what it really means to spend more than 30 years growing up together”.

Human Nature said, “After more than 30 years together, we felt it was finally time to tell our full story. Only Human is the most personal thing we’ve ever shared – honest, funny, sometimes difficult and told in our own voices. We’re excited for readers to discover the moments behind the music, but also what kept us together through it all: friendship, trust, loyalty and a shared belief that the harmony only works because of who’s standing next to you.”

Publisher Emma Nolan said, “I’ve been a fan of Human Nature for many years, and I’ve seen firsthand the incredible loyalty and love they inspire among fans. While the boys have entertained audiences around the world for decades, they haven’t previously shared the full story of their journey in such depth. What makes their story especially compelling is not just their longevity, but the enduring bond between them. Through the successes, challenges and changes that come with a career of this length, they’ve remained committed to one another and to their audience. That’s a rare achievement, and one that makes their story so inspiring.”

A&U plans to release the book in November 2026.
