DANZ Children’s Book Award 2026 winners announced

The 2026 winners of the DANZ (Diversity in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand) Children’s Book Awards have been announced by the Australian School Library Association (ASLA).
Chosen from previously announced shortlists, the winners in each category are:
Picture books
- Bapa’s Last Canoe (Maree McCarthy Yoelu, illustrated by Samantha Campbell, Magabala Books)
Chapter books
- Sunny & Shadow (Helen Milroy, Fremantle Press)
Middle grade
- Wurrtoo (Tylissa Elisara, illustrated by Dylan Finney, Lothian Children’s Books).
The winners were announced in Brisbane on 25 July 2026.
