Vale Robin Morgan

US author Robin Morgan has died, aged 85. Australian publisher Spinifex Press acquired and held world rights for several of Morgan’s works.

Spinifex Press is saddened to hear of the death of Robin Morgan, poet, novelist, writer and activist, and a prescient voice in the Women’s Liberation Movement internationally. She was 85.

Robin published more than 20 books, including eight poetry collections, and her work has been widely translated. Her first poetry collection, Monster, caused an international furore, while her TED Talk reading of poems from Dark Matter has been viewed more than one million times. She was a recipient of the US National Endowment for the Arts Prize in Poetry and a former editor-in-chief of Ms. magazine.

An activist in the global Women’s Liberation Movement for decades, Robin co-founded the Sisterhood Is Global Institute and, with Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem, the Women’s Media Center. Her landmark anthology Sisterhood Is Powerful, first published in 1970, became an essential text of the modern Women’s Liberation Movement.

Spinifex Press is proud to have published Robin’s novel, Parallax, and her poetry collections, Dark Matter: New Poems and, most recently, Harvesting Darkness: New Poems 2019–2023.

We remember Robin for her formidable contribution to feminist writing, poetry and activism, and for a body of work that will continue to inspire women around the world.
