Riveted Press acquires Sandhu middle-grade fiction

Riveted Press has acquired world rights to Khet and the Medallion of Ra by Jo Sandhu, via a Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Queensland pitch event.

The “immersive historical adventure” is the first in a series for middle-grade readers and introduces 4 friends with very different lives: a prince, a scribe, a mortuary attendant and a kitchen worker. When a sacred medallion is stolen, “young prince Khet must uncover the truth before his brother is blamed and his father’s reign is thrown into turmoil”.

Sandhu is the author of the Tarin of the Mammoths series (Puffin), the first book of which won the 2018 Readings Children’s Book Prize, was shortlisted in the Aurealis Awards and was a CBCA Notable.

Said Riveted Press managing editor Rowena Beresford, “I have long admired Jo’s work, and am thrilled to be working with her. Riveted Press is all about unforgettable stories, and I knew straight away that Khet and the Medallion of Ra was the perfect fit for us.”

“I’ve long admired the beautiful, multi-layered books published by Riveted Press, and I’m honoured to join their talented team of storytellers,” said Sandhu. “I know that Khet has found the right home.”

Riveted Press plans to publish Khet and the Medallion of Ra in mid-2027.
