Writing Australia has announced a new regional residency program.

The Writing Australia Places program offers four-week regional writing residencies in Lake St Clair and Bruny Island in Tasmania, Kangaroo Island in South Australia, Rockhampton in Queensland, Orange in New South Wales and Geraldton in Western Australia .

Writers in any genre are eligible and successful applicants will have their accommodation, airfares or other travel and ‘a small stipend’ covered. Applicants are asked to select one region suited to their project and ‘will be expected to engage with the community during their stay with at least two events or workshops and have [a] specific writing outcome from their stay’.

The program is a partnership between Writing Australia, the Copyright Agency Limited, as well as state writers’ centres, regional councils and philanthropic supporters.
