‘Kill the Morans’ recalled in Victoria

Kill the Morans: The Real Story of the Moran Crime Crew by Bert Wrout and Brett Quine (Five Mile Press), which was due to be released on 22 October, has been recalled in Victoria due to ‘legal developments’.

A number of Melbourne booksellers told Bookseller+Publisher that they were contacted late last week and told not to sell the book.

‘Legal developments subsequent to the printing of the book have meant that we have to recall this book in the state of Victoria,’ said a Five Mile Press spokesperson.

According to an article in the Age, the book contained ‘stunning revelations’ on the Moran family’s ‘turf war’, and mentioned several people with criminal matters before the courts.

Sub judice contempt laws in Victoria prevent material from being published that contain unproven allegations of a matter still before the courts. Such laws prevented the Underbelly television series—also based on the Moran family—from being shown in Victoria, however, sales of the book remained unaffected.
