Librarians among 2015 Australia Day honours recipients

Librarians and library advocates are among the recipients of the 2015 Australia Day honours, which were presented on 26 January.

Thomas Cochrane was awarded an AM for ‘significant service to library and information management, particularly to copyright law, and to education through electronic learning initiatives’. Cochrane is the co-founder and former chair of the Australian Libraries Copyright Committee, former president of the Australian Council of Libraries and Information Services, and a current fellow of the Australian Library and Information Association.

Other recipients with a library and information management connection included:

  • Janice Reid AC (NSW), council member of the National Library of Australia since 2012
  • Diana Warnock OAM (WA), a member of the National Library Council in the 1980s
  • Therese Temby AO (WA), school library consultant since 1980
  • Wendy Borchers AM (NSW), senor archivist, researcher and producer at the ABC from 1989-2010
  • Richard Thorp (NSW), an architect whose designs include the Max Webber Library in Blacktown, Sydney; the University of Sydney Nursing Library; the Willoughby Central Library in Sydney; and the Parliamentary Library in Canberra.
  • Rona Wade AM (NSW), ‘for significant service to the information technology sector, particularly through library management and resource sharing networks’.
