Ferguson wins US ‘Library of the Year’
In the US, the Ferguson Municipal Public Library (FMPL) in Missouri has been voted the Gale/Library Journal ‘Library of the Year’ for 2015. FMPL was recognised for its response to the riots that broke out after the shooting of a young African American man by local police. ‘The little FMPL, with its part-time staff, a growing cadre of volunteers and partners, and its director and sole full-time employee, was the one agency in town that stayed open to serve and support all the people of Ferguson,’ said the Library Journal. The library was awarded $10,000 to fund programs and a grant to replace all technology equipment.
