Condom vending machines installed in Melbourne library

Condom vending machines have been installed in the public toilets at Footscray Library in Melbourne, reports the Herald Sun.

The library is the only council-owned facility to be part of the 12-month pilot project, a partnership between the local council and a women’s health group.

‘It was a project goal to put the condom vending machines in a location that was as accessible as possible for all community members,’ said council chief executive Stephen Wall. ‘The Footscray Library is accessed by people of all ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, sexualities and genders and is open beyond the usual business hours, including the weekend.’

Research shows that young men prefer to access low-cost condoms from semi-private places.
