Victoria Park council launches Little Free Libraries scheme

The Town of Victoria Park council in Perth is rolling out a Little Free Libraries scheme to boost community literacy levels, reports Community News.

The first of 10 mini-libraries, which are made out of boxes and recycled materials, was opened at the Victoria Park Arts Centre. The project is run in conjunction with the Victoria Park Transition Network.

Town deputy mayor Brian Oliver said the idea was ‘brilliant’ for the community. ‘Not only does this project encourage our community to read more and promote sustainability, it also connects like-minded people and makes the sharing of books even more accessible for all,’ said Oliver.

The location of the libraries will be registered on the Little Free Library world map.
