SLV Google Expedition launches

The State Library of Victoria’s (SLV) Google Expedition, which uses virtual reality to create the experience of an immersive field trip, was launched in Mildura on 16 September.

The expedition includes Ned Kelly’s armour, the Batman deed with people of the Kulin nation, paintings of early Melbourne and historic figures, and a virtual experience of the library building.

Each student requires a viewing device provided by the library to experience the exhibition.

SLV learning services manager Andrew Hiskens said Expeditions is ‘a terrific example of how technology is transforming the education experience’. ‘State Library Victoria is exactly that, a library for all Victorians,’ said Hiskens. ‘This technology allows us to give people a library experience, wherever they live, and one that is highly engaging and educational.’
