List of mood-boosting books announced for World Mental Health Day

The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) released its list of 252 books chosen by members as the best ‘mood-boosting titles’ on World Mental Health Day on 10 October.

The list was produced from 320 respondents and will be used to supports its Books on Prescription program, currently being trialled in Central and Far Western NSW libraries.

The list comprises 152 fiction and 100 nonfiction adult and children’s books titles across numerous genres. Australian titles that made the list include The Dressmaker (Rosalie Ham, Duffy & Snellgrove), The Messenger (Markus Zusak, Pan), The Rosie Project (Graeme Simsion, Text), and ‘classic Australian tales of struggle’ such as A Fortunate Life and My Brilliant Career.
