New ALIA award for library design to be presented in 2017
The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) has announced the inaugural Australian Library Design Awards will be presented in 2017, in partnership with the Australian Public Library Alliance and the Council of Australian University Librarians.
The awards will showcase contemporary library interiors and exteriors, and follows international precedents such as the American Institute of Architects/American Library Association Library Building Awards and the Danish Agency for Culture Model Programme for Public Libraries Public Library of the Year Award.
Libraries built, renovated or refurbished between 1 July 2013 and 31 July 2016 are eligible to enter, with the libraries to be judged on design, strategic relevance and impact. The shortlist will be announced during Library and Information Week in May 2017, with the winner announced on 19 June following a one day conference showcasing the designs, to be held at the Library at the Dock in Docklands, Melbourne.
ALIA hopes to present the awards once every two years. For more information and to enter, click here.
