ALIA holds gala dinner at Parliament House

The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) held a gala dinner at Parliament House in Canberra on 7 November to celebrate public libraries.

ALIA produced a ‘Ten ways that libraries power smart cities’ fact sheet for the event to showcase public libraries’ contribution to innovation and creativity. ALIA also launched its ‘Guidelines, Standards and Outcome Measure for Australian Public Libraries’.

An ALIA spokesperson said industry, innovation and science assistant minister Craig Laundy and shadow attorney general Mark Dreyfus both ‘had wonderful personal anecdotes about libraries and paid tribute to libraries’ contribution to Australian communities’.
