Oz candidate elected IFLA president

Former Australia Library and Information Association (ALIA) president Christine Mackenzie has been elected president-elect of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) from 2017-2019 and president from 2019-2021.

Two other candidates from New Zealand and Brazil were also in the running.

IFLA is an international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. Based in the Hague, it has over 1300 members in approximately 140 countries.

Former CEO and State Librarian Alex Byrne is the last Australian to serve as IFLA president, from 2005 to 2007.
