Sydney TAFE library to stay open

TAFE NSW has announced the level two library at Ultimo TAFE will remain open following resistance to its plans to replace one floor of the library with offices.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, TAFE promised to consult with staff and students over changes to the library, after the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), students and unions criticised a plan to turn one of its three levels into corporate offices.

City Hub reports that TAFE NSW deputy regional general manager Paul Williams told a Student Action Group meeting that the office plans had been scrapped. A spokesperson for Ultimo TAFE told City Hub that the plan was axed as a result of the backlash.
