Vallance appointed NSW State Library CEO and state librarian

John Vallance has been appointed NSW State Library CEO and state librarian.

Vallance has been headmaster of Sydney Grammar School for the past 17 years.

NSW arts minister Don Harwin said Vallance ‘brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as a highly regarded educator and academic to the state library’. ‘His roles with world-renowned organisations such as the National Arts School and Sydney Symphony Orchestra will build on the state library’s proud history of success,’ said Harwin. ‘Dr Vallance’s appointment will be an incredible asset to the State Library team and its commitment to excellence.’

Vallance will begin in the role on 28 August, replacing current acting state librarian Lucy Milne, who will continue in the role of deputy chief executive.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Alex Byrne retired as NSW State Library CEO and state librarian in September 2016 after five years in the position.
