SLNSW wins approval for redevelopment

The City of Sydney and the NSW Heritage Council has approved the State Library of NSW’s planned $15m redevelopment of its Mitchell building.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, the library launched a fundraising campaign in 2013 seeking corporate, philanthropic and individual donations for the redevelopment, which includes new galleries and a learning centre, as part of the library’s ‘master plan’ to turn the library into ‘a global cultural destination for all’.

Construction on the redevelopment has now commenced. The galleries and learning centre will open in 2018.
