Mackay library wins top state award for design
Dudley Denny City Library in Mackay, Queensland, has won top spot in the 2017 Master Builders Queensland Awards’ Refurbishment/Renovation over $2 million award category, reports the Daily Mercury.
The judges cited the library’s ‘thoughtful design and functional layout as well as the use of a striking glass lantern skylight positioned over the original dome’.
The library’s open-plan design comprises an interactive floor projector, reading nooks and interactive spaces for ‘imaginative play and sensory experiences’, as well as a 300sqm outdoor terrace with tropical plantings, an interactive playground and a recreation zone.
The library is now eligible for the National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards in November.
