Costa Book Awards 2017 shortlists announced

In the UK, the shortlists for the 2017 Costa Book Awards have been announced.
Shortlisted for the Costa Novel Award are:
- Reservoir 13 (Jon McGregor, 4th Estate)
- Under a Pole Star (Stef Penney, Quercus)
- Home Fire (Kamila Shamsie, Bloomsbury)
- Tin Man (Sarah Winman, Tinder Press)
Shortlists were also announced for the First Novel, Biography, Poetry and Children’s Book Awards. To view these shortlists, click here.
Fourteen of the 20 shortlisted authors are women, while independent publishers also performed strongly this year.
The category winners will be announced on 2 January and will each receive £5000 (A$8736). The overall winner will be announced on 30 January and will receive an additional £30,000 (A$52,415).
