Tamworth libraries secure $200,000 in funding

Tamworth’s regional libraries will receive a technology upgrade, after the library service secured $200,000 in NSW state government funding, reports the Northern Daily Leader.

The funding will allow the six libraries across NSW’s New England region to switch to a new database and scanning system, which will make inventory checking and locating misplaced books more efficient.

Central Northern Regional Libraries manager Kay Delahunt said the upgrade will also speed up the library loans process. ‘Instead of having to open up the book and wand the barcode they can simply take up a pile of up to 15 books, place it on the pad and that’s all they have to do, it automatically uploads it and desensitises it,’ said Delahunt.

The technology upgrade is expected to take 18 months to complete.

The Central Northern Regional Libraries loaned more than 297,000 books in the 2016-17 financial year, and recorded 105,000 yearly visitors.
