North Fitzroy Library wins gold at 2018 Melbourne Design Awards
The City of Yarra’s Bargoonga Nganjin North Fitzroy Library and Community Hub has won a gold prize at the 2018 Melbourne Design Awards.
Announced on 17 May, this year’s awards recognised 166 winning projects across 63 categories, with both gold and silver prizes given. The library won a gold prize over three other shortlisted projects in the public and institutional architecture category.
Led by design studio GroupGSA, the library building’s new $15+ million design incorporates the library, a maternal and child health facility and a variety of community-focused facilities, including a new home for the City of Yarra’s International House. Special mention was also made of ‘a number of innovations’ in the building, including a rooftop garden that ‘enhances the overall sustainable design by inclusion of an under-decking water-catchment system’.
Winners will be formally recognised at an awards presentation on 3 July.
The Melbourne Design Awards are administered by Driven x Design, a global community of over 75,000 designers, 5000 brands and 1500 studios.
