Finch, Loo awarded J S Battye Creative Fellowship

State Library of Western Australia (SLWA) has awarded the James Sykes Battye Creative Fellowship, valued at $10,000, to writer Steven Finch and illustrator Gabby Loo for their interactive community project Oracle Bone: Speculative Migrant Ethnobiographies.

Due to be completed by mid-2019, the project will explore personal stories of migrant lineage in Western Australia, particularly of Asian migrants, via research in SLWA heritage collections.

The library will run workshops with migrant community organisations to form creative responses to the heritage materials via artworks and storytelling. The migrant responses will be interpreted as an artwork collaboration, with illustrations by Loo and writing by Finch, and as a community performance.
