SLQ opens Queensland’s first ‘tool library’

The State Library of Queensland (SLQ) has partnered with the Brisbane Tool Library to open Queensland’s first tool library, reports the Age.

The membership-based service, located at South Bank in Brisbane, will allow Brisbane residents to borrow out second-hand tools, camping gear and sporting equipment for up to three weeks with renewals.

Brisbane Tool Library founder Sabrina Chakroi said she hoped the service, the third of its kind in Australia, would create a ‘circular economy’ and replicate a book borrowing library module.

‘For the price of one power tool, [members] have access to hundreds of them,’ she said. ‘Our aim is to reduce consumption and waste, while giving access to the community to items that were unused or going to landfill.’
