Gleeson, James nominated for 2020 Hans Christian Andersen Awards

Libby Gleeson and Ann James have been nominated by IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) Australia as the Australian candidates for the 2020 Hans Christian Andersen Awards.

Gleeson has been nominated for the author’s award and James for the illustrator’s award.

The Hans Christian Andersen Awards are presented biennially to a living author and illustrator whose complete works have made a lasting contribution to children’s literature. The full list of nominees was announced at the 2019 Bologna Children’s Book Fair in April and the winners will be announced at the 2020 fair.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, author David Metzenthen and illustrator Jeannie Baker were nominated as the Australian candidates for the 2018 awards, which went to Japanese author Eiko Kadono and Russian artist Igor Oleynikov.
