National e-deposit service launched this week

The national e-deposit service (NED), a collaboration between Australia’s national, state and territory libraries, will launch at the National Library of Australia (NLA) this week.

The project provides digital infrastructure to preserve Australia’s digital heritage for future generations. Publishers and authors can now upload electronic books, journals, magazines and other publications through the NED website.

The general public can access the collection online through Trove or in person at their national state and territory libraries, depending on the publication’s level of access.

National and State Libraries Australia Chair and State Library Victoria CEO Kate Torney said: ‘NED builds on a long history of collaboration between the national, state and territory libraries of Australia which benefits all library users. This world-first national e-deposit system highlights Australia’s library sector as a global leader, and sets a wonderful precedent for future projects.’
