‘My Pet Star’ named Sainsbury’s Children’s Book of the Year 2019

UK supermarket chain Sainsbury’s has announced the winners of its 2019 Children’s Book Awards.

The overall prize for children’s book of the year was awarded to My Pet Star (Rosalind Beardshaw & Corrinne Averiss, Orchard Books), which also won in the picture book category.

The fiction prize went to The Umbrella Mouse (Anna Fargher, illus by Sam Usher, Macmillan), while Eric Carle was awarded the Sainsbury’s children’s classic award for The Very Hungry Caterpillar (Puffin).

The winners of each category receive a cash prize of £1000 (A$1800) and their books will be stocked in Sainsbury’s stores across the UK. For a full list winners in all categories, visit the BookTrust website.
