Mary Ryan’s Noosa to close

Mary Ryan’s Noosa will close in October 2020.

Owners Ross and Susan Burgess purchased the business in June 2010, and are closing the store due to illness. A spokesperson for Mary Ryan’s told Books+Publishing they are disappointed to be closing but have ‘enjoyed sharing their love of books over the past decade’.

Highlights for the Burgess’ during their time running the store have been discussing books with ‘loyal and new customers and introducing new authors to young and old, inviting them to broaden their reading net’.

Through the numerous literary events it hosted over the years, Mary Ryan’s Noosa welcomed prime ministers, broadcasters, Australian cricketers, chefs and emerging authors. The owners also count the store’s long-running involvement with the Noosa Food and Wine festival, and support of local businesses, schools, charities and fundraisers among their highlights.

‘Just like a good book, the store has taken us on many an adventure, introducing us to a wide assortment of wonderful characters, along the way imparted wisdom and insight into people, relationships and the power of tenacity. It has also reinforced the simple joy of reading and talking about books,’ Mary Ryan’s Noosa said in a statement.

‘Ross and Susan extend their sincere thanks to all who have been on this journey with us; to our amazing team of dedicated staff, past and present who have worked with us over the past 10 years; not forgetting our suppliers, reps and loyal customers who have supported us and shared our disappointment in closing our beautiful store. We have been so gratified by their response.’
