Victorian libraries to celebrate Australian Reading Hour with ‘Dressmaker’ exclusive

More than 40 Victorian library services will promote a shared online Victoria Reads event to celebrate Australian Reading Hour on 12 November.

The event, to be hosted by new Public Libraries Victoria CEO Angela Savage, will feature an exclusive reading from Rosalie Ham’s The Dressmaker’s Secret, the sequel to The Dressmaker.

Created by a working group of eight Victorian library services formed by Natalie Mason, convenor of the Public Libraries Victoria Reader Development special interest group, the event replaces the Silent Readings Parties many Victorian libraries have hosted in recent years, which could not take place this year due to so many library closures and the fact such events would not translate to online.

Libbi Gorr, Jacinta Parsons and Brian Nankervis will voice the characters in The Dressmaker’s Secret reading, which will take place on Zoom and be followed by discussion as part of Australia Reads.

For more information or to register, see the Eventbrite booking page.
