Sales, Crabb and Rees to celebrate Love Your Bookshop Day

The Australian Booksellers Association (ABA) has announced that this year’s Love Your Bookshop Day (LYBD) celebrations on Saturday, 9 October will take place online ‘so that everyone can engage from wherever they are’ as the ACT, New South Wales and Victoria continue under lockdown restrictions.

‘Books and reading have been a lifeline for so many people over the last year as we’ve sought both entertainment and quality information from our local bookshops,’ said ABA CEO Robbie Egan. ‘Wherever you are, locked down or free to roam, we need books and bookshops more than ever. So let’s celebrate, together and apart, and make some noise about Australia’s incredible, unparalleled network of bookshops.’

In a statement, the ABA said journalists Leigh Sales and Annabel Crabb will celebrate the day with a special podcast episode of their Chat 10 Looks 3 podcast ‘talking all things bookshops’, and entertainer Jimmy Rees will create a dedicated Love Your Bookshop video. Avid Reader in Brisbane will be hosting a ‘Festival of Cancelled Events’, inviting local authors who have had books out in 2020-21 to come to a night of reading and celebration, with a planned Zoom watch party for interstate authors, while Fremantle Press is planning a bookshop tour ‘and Instagram takeover with their local authors as they go from local store to local store’.
