Stivens wins 2022 Ray Koppe Fellowship
Sarah Stivens has won the Australian Society of Authors’ (ASA) 2022 Ray Koppe Young Writers Fellowship for her poetry manuscript ‘Therapeutic Discomfort’.
‘Therapeutic Discomfort’ is a work of 10 poems that explores through form and perspective themes of rural identities, mental illness, trauma, grief and relationships.
The annual fellowship awards an unpublished writer under the age of 35 with a two-week residency at Varuna the National Writers’ House, as well as a one-hour consultation, a year’s membership to the ASA and a travel subsidy for writers outside of NSW.
Of her win, Stivens said: ‘Being offered this opportunity is something I never would have dreamed of at the beginning of my writing journey. I’m so grateful for the encouragement, the belief in my work that this represents and the opportunity to develop this manuscript which means so much to me.’
