BookUp 2022 keynotes announced

The Australian Publisher’s Association (APA) has announced the first guests for its second BookUp conference, which will take place at the ICC Sydney on Thursday, 9 June.

The APA said the keynotes will focus on the key issues of diversity and sustainability. Vice president and chief diversity officer at Hachette Book Group Carrie Bloxson will explore approaches to creating more diverse, inclusive and equitable organisations, while materials scientist, engineer and inventor Veena Sahajwalla will discuss sustainability and the circular economy.

Bloxson, formerly interim CEO and chief marketing officer at social impact organisation DoSomething.org and vice president of marketing at HarperCollins, is also a co-founder of social impact marketing community CMOs for Good and a board member for Avenues for Justice, an alternative to incarceration program for youthful offenders in New York City.

Sahajwalla, 2022 NSW Australian of the Year, is founding director of the UNSW Sustainable Materials Research and Technology (SMaRT) Centre, where she is known for pioneering the production of a new generation of ‘green materials’. She is also the director of the ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub for ‘microrecycling’, a leading national research centre that works in collaboration with industry to ensure new recycling science is translated into real world environmental and economic benefits.

The APA will announce further details of the 2022 BookUp program in the coming weeks. For more information about the conference, see the APA website.
