MKWC, Varuna announce new residency for NZ writers

Varuna, the National Writers House and the Michael King Writers Centre (MKWC), Aotearoa New Zealand’s national writers’ facility, have announced a new residency for New Zealand writers.

Open to mid-career or established New Zealand writers who have had a book published in the past two years, the recipient will spend four weeks at Varuna in Katoomba, NSW, with accommodation and all meals covered. They will also receive return airfares to Sydney, a NZ$5000 stipend, and the opportunity to appear at the Blue Mountains Writers’ Festival, which will take place 21–23 October.

The residency will take place 25 September to 23 October 2022. Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or have New Zealand permanent residency.

Applications close Monday, 25 April, with the selection to be announced in late May. For more information, see the MKWC website.
