Editorial manager/senior editor (parental leave cover)
We are looking for an experienced editorial manager or senior editor to join us for a parental leave role to manage our editorial team and work on illustrated and narrative titles across food and drink, lifestyle, memoir, health and wellbeing, biography, current affairs and sport.
Reporting to the Hardie Grant Books managing director, you will oversee editorial staff, processes and standards across a variety of titles for the adult trade, from manuscript through to print.
You’ll be just as comfortable editing, proofreading and writing copy as you are maintaining schedules and budgets, or assisting with design briefs and photoshoots. You’ll be a natural at author care and comfortable supporting and mentoring the more junior members of the team. Someone who loves the process of working with authors, managing staff, adapting schedules and working with the wider production and design team will be ideal.
The role is a six-month long maternity leave cover and hours can be flexible to accommodate part-time if that is preferable.
Requirements
You must have at least five years’ editorial experience, including in-house, be confident managing multiple titles, and have a strong understanding of every aspect of book production.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Impeccable organisational and editorial skills
- Good creative judgement
- The drive to improve processes and people and to maintain high editorial standards
- You will love words but equally be excited by innovative design and illustrated titles
- A working knowledge of Adobe Creative suite, particularly InDesign, is strongly preferred.
Editorial and publishing coordinator (full time)
We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised person to support our editorial team as editorial and publishing coordinator. In this role you will assist our busy team working on market leading titles across food and drink, lifestyle, memoir, health and wellbeing, biography, current affairs and sport, contributing to the creation of the beautiful and bestselling books that Hardie Grant is known for.
Reporting to the senior editor, you will support the team across a range of tasks including co-ordinating ebook production, checking pages, proofs and ozalids, assist with flat plans and imprint pages and oversee content management updates, freelancer agreements and invoices. You will love words but equally be excited by innovative design and illustrated titles. In short, you will be an invaluable member of the editorial team ready to help with a varied list of tasks across our many titles.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic with a passion for books and a thirst to learn. Experience in the bookselling or publishing process is welcome however we are open to candidates with commensurate experience in other industries.
