Women’s Prize 2023 shortlist announced

The shortlist for the 2023 International Women’s Prize for Fiction has been announced.

The six titles shortlisted for the award are:

  • Black Butterflies (Priscilla Morris, Duckworth Books)
  • Demon Copperhead (Barbara Kingsolver, Faber)
  • Fire Rush (Jacqueline Crooks, Jonathan Cape)
  • Pod (Laline Paull, Little Brown)
  • The Marriage Portrait (Maggie O’Farrell, Headline)
  • Trespasses (Louise Kennedy, Bloomsbury).

The shortlist was selected from a longlist of 16 by judges broadcaster and writer Louise Minchin (chair); novelist Rachel Joyce; journalist, podcaster and writer Bella Mackie; novelist and short story writer Irenosen Okojie; and MP Tulip Siddiq.

The winner will be announced on 14 June. Last year’s winner was Ruth Ozeki for her fourth novel The Book of Form and Emptiness (Text).
