2023 First Nations Writers Festival to be held in Townsville
The First Nations Writers Festival, featuring First Nations writers of the greater Pacific region, will take place in Townsville from 26–27 May.
Among the featured writers are Julie Janson, author of the Miles Franklin-longlisted novel Madukka the River Serpent (UWAP); author Rebecca Olul-Hossein, who co-edited and contributed to the collection Sista, Stanap Strong: A #Vanuatu Women’s Anthology; author and teacher in Papua New Guinea Marlene Potoura; Dahlia Malaeulu, a Samoan New Zealand author and recipient of the Creative New Zealand 2022 Pasifika Emerging Pacific Artist Award; author and leadership trainer Mani Malaeulu; founder of the Pakistan Mother Languages Literature Festival Niaz Nadeem; Camellia Webb-Gannon, co-editor of Morning Star Rising: The politics of decolonization in West Papua; Papua New Guinea writer Nathan Kilali; and Solomon Islands writer Joshua Torenn.
The festival will include a Welcome to Country and the announcement of the First Nations Pacific Short Story Awards on 26 May, followed by free VIP speaker discussions on 27 May.
