Australian/Vogel’s Literary Award shortlist announced

The shortlist has been announced for the Australian/Vogel’s Literary Award 2023, for an unpublished manuscript by an author under the age of 35.

The shortlisted titles are:

  • ‘Don’t They Know It’s The End of the World?’, ‘the story of a journalist interviewing a reclusive writer in the years before an apocalyptic event by Melbourne copywriter Nick Milde
  • ‘A Collection of Endings’, a collection of short stories by Tasmanian medical student Lily McCann
  • ‘Immaculate’, a story of a couple trying to navigate their daughter’s potentially fatal illness, by Brisbane actor and writer Anna McGahan.

Now in its 43rd year, the $20,000 prize will be awarded on Friday 16 June and the winning work will be published by Allen & Unwin. In 2022 the prize was awarded to A Place Near Eden by Melbourne writer Nell Pierce.
